DESCRIPTION

The Certified Six Sigma Black Belt is a professional who can explain Six Sigma philosophies and principles, including supporting systems and tools. A Black Belt should demonstrate team leadership, understand team dynamics and assign team member roles and responsibilities. Black Belts have a thorough understanding of all aspects of the DMAIC model in accordance with Six Sigma principles. They have basic knowledge of Lean enterprise concepts, are able to identify non-value-added elements and activities and are able to use specific tools.

OBJETIVE

  • Achieve significant improvements in critical business processes.
  • Apply statistical problem-solving tools for an improvement project.
  • Reduce process variation.
  • Eliminate waste and defects through the application of Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Collect, analyze, and quantify data to enable process improvements.
  • Learn how to execute the Six Sigma methodology.
  • Establish and define process capability.
  • Identify and eliminate dominant sources of variation in the process.
  • Characterize and optimize processes using statistical techniques.
  • Design, simulate, and conduct designed experiments that demonstrate validated improvements.

Requirements/Observations

Minimum experience: Six Sigma Black Belt requires two completed projects with signed affidavits, or one completed project with a signed affidavit and three years of work experience, in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Body of Knowledge. (http://asq.org/cert/six-sigma/bok)

Basic Knowledge: The students have to know about basic statistical concepts like: Measures of central tendency, scattering measurements, correlation and regression analysis, SPC (Statistical Process Control).

Program Duration: The program is delivered in weekly sessions of 3 hours each. The total program lasts approximately 27 weeks. Alternatively, it can be conducted in an intensive format.

Certification Exam: Each certification candidate is required to pass a written examination that consists of multiple- choice questions measuring comprehension of the Body of Knowledge. The Six Sigma Black Belt certification examination is a four-hour, 150 multiple-choice question examination. It is offered in English. (http://asq.org/cert/six-sigma/index).

Recertification Journal: The certification is valid for 3 years. After this period, recertification is required. There are two methods:

  1. Obtain a minimum of 18 recertifiable units (RUs) during the 3-year certification period (http://asq.org/cert/recertification/rucredits/index).
  2. Re-take the exam.
